WE LOOK GONE FOR A BURTON SAYS CLOUGH

-

NIGEL CLOUGH accepts it will take another miracle to keep Burton up.

The Brewers are six points from safety and praying for a hat-trick of against-the-odds feats, having won promotion to the Championship and then survived last term.

Clough (above) said: “It’s a massive gulf and it has got bigger in the last 12 months. We have performed miracles getting out of League One and then staying in the Championship so to get another one is unlikely, but we are going to try.

“We would settle for taking it to the last day at Preston. That would take a sequence of results, but we would settle for that as it would be a bonus.” Burton have not won at home since September. And ahead of today’s Pirelli Stadium clash with Boro, Clough said: “Middlesbrough spent a lot of money in the summer and have some of the most attacking and dangerous players in the league.

“They will be a handful, but we will try to compete with them.”

Defender John Brayford (above) is desperate to banish the Pirelli blues. He said: “We know that our home form has been really poor. We have got to turn around and look at ourselves to try to put a performance on.

“You know what? I would take a worse performance and get the three points any day, because the points are what matter now.

“It is another game, another three points up for grabs. You can say all of the cliches in the world, but we know what we have to do.

“We need to be more ruthless in both boxes, that is why teams are at the top and teams are at the bottom in this league. There isn’t much between them really.”
