Newborn baby found dead in woodland
Cops probe tot mystery
A NEWBORN baby’s body was found abandoned in woodland yesterday.
Police were called to the scene at 7.10am after a member of the public made the shocking discovery in a field.
A large part of the wooded area in Heywood, North Manchester, was cordoned off as it was searched by forensic teams and dog handlers.
At one point officers carried a pink-trimmed wicker Moses basket to the scene as colleagues knocked on doors on a nearby housing estate.
Well-wishers left flowers and teddies for the tragic tot. One local said: “When I found out it was a little baby, I thought it was awful. It knocked me sick.”
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed: “Officers attended [the scene] and discovered the body of what is believed to be a newborn baby.”
