JERMAIN DEFOE fancied this season might end with England at the World Cup in Russia.

Instead, he will be on the beach – disappointed at the lack of action in his first campaign with the Cherries.

Defoe (right), 35, has made just 10 Premier League starts – scoring four goals – since arriving from Sunderland on a three-year deal. He said: “Nobody wants to sit on the bench. “Normally at this stage you want to have scored 15 to 20 goals. “The past two seasons, I’ve finished with 15 league goals, so I’m not going to say I have had a good season.“
