Today’s picture shows the Titanic leaving her berth at Southampton on her fateful maiden voyage. As the 46,328-ton liner set out, her wake caused the SS New York, docked nearby, to break from her moorings. The ships came within metres of colliding with each other until a tugboat towed the New York to safety. The incident delayed Titanic’s departure by half an hour.
