Mo-mentous win as Reds rock Etihad

-

Liverpool recovered from conceding a early goal to book their place in the semi-finals.

Salah said: “City were pressing very high and had many chances, but we came back and played hard and the win was deserved.

“I try to play for the team and try and score in each game – that’s the most important thing for me.”

Team-mate James Milner added: “They’re a good team and were always going to put us under pressure. They had chances but that shows a lot about how we came out in the second half.

“Maybe it woke us up to concede that early, it says a lot about the boys coming under that pressure in first half and in the second half last week. In the second half today we got hold of it slightly more.

“Everyone knows how good Manchester City are so to beat them is a good confidence builder but we have to be better in the next round.

“We got about them a bit more in the second half, kept the ball slightly better, and were more composed.”

Guardiola was furious City were denied a legitimate first-half goal when Leroy Sane was ruled offside and raced on to the pitch to vent his frustration at Lahoz.

The Blues boss was dismissed after confronting Lahoz before Salah and Firmino ultimately ended any hope of a stunning City comeback.

Sane turned the ball home, only to see the effort ruled out, although TV replays showed the ball had been played back by Milner and the goal

should have stood.
