WEBSITE OF THE WEEK
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition which can be successfully treated with a range of therapies, but it is currently incurable.
Currently, around 145,000 people in the UK are living with Parkinson’s (one person in every 350). This is expected to increase by 18% by the year 2025 and is set to almost double by 2065.
It is estimated that one person in 37 will receive a diagnosis of Parkinson’s during their lifetime.
The Cure Parkinson’s Trust has challenged the view that there is no cure for Parkinson’s. They only fund projects that can demonstrate the potential to slow, stop, or even reverse the condition.
They also actively encourage collaboration between scientists and foster these relationships to accelerate any progress.
