May can’t shake guilt

-

TWIST and turn as she might, Theresa May cannot shake off responsibility for the persecution of Windrush-era Brits from the Caribbean – because this Tory Prime Minister is guilty as charged.

May created this scandal by changing the law to force people who lived and worked here lawfully for decades to produce papers they did not have, and could not obtain, after their landing cards were destroyed in 2010 – shortly after the Conservatives took power.

Trying to blame Labour by asserting the UK Border Agency approved a business case in 2009 to dispose of paper records, is the diversion of a PM trying to deny her record.

May’s ill-judged drive to create a hostile environment and pandering to prejudice with “Go home” propaganda vans, which fuelled public concern while resulting in fewer than a dozen people leaving, treated grafters here legally for years as if they were illegal aliens.

The PM must not be allowed to run away from her shameful record.
