Councils sit on £375m in homes farce
THE Tory council panned for failing to rehome victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster is sitting on £21million earmarked for affordable housing.
Councils have failed to spend a total of £375million donated by developers under the Section 106 planning laws.
The cash is meant to be spent on specific projects but £100million has yet to be allocated.
James Prestwich of the National Housing Federation called the findings “deeply concerning”.
Kensington and Chelsea, which is responsible for rehoming the survivors of the Grenfell Tower blaze which killed 71 people last June, still has £21million.
But a spokesman said £19million is earmarked to buy flats for the survivors.
