WILLIAMS HAILS NORTH’S RETURN HOME

- EXCLUSIVE BY ALEX SPINK

GEORGE NORTH signing for Ospreys is a major World Cup boost for Wales, according to Shane Williams.

The Lions wing (right) has finally confirmed his club of choice and signed a National Dual Contract, 60 per cent of which will be paid by the Welsh Rugby Union. Ospreys legend Williams insists his former international team-mate, the Swansea-based club and Wales will all benefit.

“To get George back into Welsh rugby a year out from the World Cup is massive,” Williams said.

“He has scored 34 tries in 76 Tests for Wales and the Lions and he’s still only 26. I honestly don’t think we have seen the best of him yet.

“He’s got loads more to offer and this move will definitely help as he can now just concentrate on playing rugby.”

Williams refers to the tug-of-loyalty North has often been caught up in since leaving the Principality for the English Premiership five years ago.

“He won’t any more have to worry about the politics of, ‘Can he play for Wales this weekend?’” said Wales’ record try-scorer. “Or have to answer questions as to has he fallen out with the coaches at Northampton?

“He can just get on with the job and concentrate on performing for club and country.

“That’s what you want from George. You want him to have a clear mind, not worrying about all the other stuff. Because we all know what he can do when he’s confident and ready to go.”
