Give us the cheerleader over the churlish

-

THERE are still one or two out there who consider Jurgen Klopp to be some sort of glorified cheerleader. Of the responses to a suggestion he was an accomplished tactician, a favourite was to declare that Jose Mourinho would never have allowed a 5-0 to become a 5-2.

Which might well be correct but is entirely irrelevant. In 162 matches managing Chelsea and Manchester United since January 17, 2015, Mourinho’s teams have not scored five or more goals in a single match. Since that time, Klopp (right) has seen his team do it TWELVE times in 128 games.

Pep Guardiola’s City side have also done it 12 times in his 109 matches as manager.

Mourinho would never have allowed a 5-0 to become a 5-2.

But he would never have allowed the 5-0 in the first place.
