Yates still in the pink

SIMON YATES kept hold of the pink jersey by winning stage 11 of the Giro d’Italia to extend his overall lead.

The British star and defending champion Tom Dumoulin were part of the initial breakaway on the 156-kilometre route from Assisi to Osimo yesterday.

But Yates made a rapid burst in the final 1.5km to finish two seconds ahead of Dutchman Dumoulin, with Italy’s Davide Formolo in third spot.

Yates stretched his advantage over Dumoulin to 47secs in the overall GC.

Fellow Brit Chris Froome was 40secs behind Yates in 23rd spot, and dropped out of the overall top 10.
