HE’S THE ONE

Cox can be pride of London with Amazing triumph

-

HE’S AMAZING can cap a good week for Clive Cox by lifting the London Gold Cup (3.00) at Newbury.

Cox, whose star sprinter Harry Angel made a smooth return to action at York on Wednesday, sent He’s Amazing to Newbury for each of his first three outings.

And, after three podium finishes – two in late summer of 2017, followed by a reappearance second last month – the son of Fastnet Rock made his handicap debut at Newmarket on the 1,000 Guineas undercard.

My selection proved better than his handicap mark of 82, travelling well before knuckling down to beat Midnight Wilde by a short head, with today’s rival Dukhan two and threequarter lengths back in third.

The assessor has reacted with a 6lb rise, but He’s Amazing has plenty of improvement to draw upon and can follow up.

Sir Michael Stoute is taken for a double before the ITV cameras, EQTIDAAR starting with in the Listed Carnarvon Stakes (1.50).

There was no disgrace in finishing second to Invincible Army in the Group 3 Pavilion Stakes at Ascot 17 days ago, and the step down in grade should enable Jim Crowley’s mount to go one better. Stoute’s St Leger runner-up CRYSTAL OCEAN (left) can complete the brace by justifying short odds in the Group 3 Al Rayyan Stakes (2.25). Crystal Ocean made his comeback in the Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown last month, battling to a short-head margin over Fabricate. The 10-furlong trip that day would have been on the sharp side and the return to a mile and a half will suit. SHOWMETHEDOUGH At Newmarket,

should appreciate going back up to six furlongs for the Betway Handicap (3.15).

The Richard Fahey-trained chestnut was strong at the finish over five at Chester last week and his sole career victory came over this afternoon’s distance. OLD Charlie Appleby’s PERSIAN

can overcome two opponents for Newmarket’s Listed Betway Fairway Stakes PURSER, (2.05), while a courseand-distance scorer at last month’s Craven meeting, gets the nod in the Listed Betway King Charles II Stakes (2.40).
