PM’s £50m grammar school plan ‘will not benefit’ pupils
THERESA May’s flagship plan to pump £50million into grammar schools is “unlikely to bring benefits for young people”, a study found.
It said such schools fail to give pupils any advantage at 14 over r youngsters at comprehensives.
The UCL Institute of Education’s ducation’s study, looked at results as well as pupils’ well-being and hopes for the future. It found grammar ammar school pupils were “unlikely to be happier, more engaged at school or have higher levels of academic achievement”. Co- author Sam Sims said: “Our research suggests the Government would be better directing their money towards toward areas of existing need.” Angela An Rayner, Labour’s Shadow Shad Education Secretary, said: said “This is the latest evidence that the PM’s pet project of grammar gram school expansion will fail fa even on its own terms.”
