Trump nukes Kim meeting

He blames North Korea’s ‘hostility’

DONALD Trump has cancelled his planned peace summit with despot Kim Jong-un.

The US President blamed “tremendous anger and open hostility” for his decision to abandon the June 12 meeting to discuss North Korea giving up its nuclear weapons.

He also made a thinly veiled threat about his willingness to wage war if pushed.

It came after North Korea’s Vice-Foreign Minister Choe Son-Hui slammed US Vice President Mike Pence for his “impudent remarks that North Korea might end like Libya”.

Responding, Trump wrote to Kim: “I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting.”

He added: “You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never be used.”

South Korean leader Moon Jae-In held an emergency meeting with senior security officials and urged the leaders to find a resolution. Theresa May’s spokesman said ministers were “disappointed” at the cancellation.

Trump later said the Singapore summit may still happen, either on the planned date or later.

Kim had already threatened to cancel after the US and South Korea continued to hold military drills.

There will be no summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un and no Nobel Peace Prize for Trump. In any event, he would have been an unworthy recipient, having withdrawn from the Paris climate accord, raised Middle East tensions by moving the US embassy to Jerusalem and sabotaged the Iranian nuclear deal.

Now his hope of bringing North Korea in from the cold has fallen at the first hurdle.

Some will applaud the President for trying. But there is a danger he has turned a volatile situation into a far more dangerous one.
