Wills to be first royal to tour Israel & West Bank

PRINCE William’s historic trip to Israel – the first official visit by a UK royal in the Jewish state’s 70-year history – has been confirmed.

He will go to Jordan on June 24 before moving on to Israel and, briefly, the Pales- tinian city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

A visit to the Yad Vashem Holocaust remembrance centre is likely, as is a pilgrimage to the grave of his great gran, Princess Alice, on Jerusalem’s Mount of Olives.

It is not known whether he will follow his ancestors, the future Edward VII and George V and brother Prince Albert, who had crosses tattooed on unofficial visits.

Security will cost millions. Dozens of Palestinians recently died in clashes on Israel’s Gaza border. The region is not believed to be on the five-day itinerary.
