Dirty cash for Tories

AS a former Foreign Secretary, William Hague knows better than most about the corrupt regime of Vladimir Putin.

-

Indeed, he recently warned the West should wake up to the threat posed by Russia and criticised its government’s use of extortion and murder to silence dissent.

It has not prevented Lord Hague working for a law firm, Linklaters, which MPs believe could be “entwined in the corruption of the Kremlin”. There are obviously serious questions for the Tory peer to answer.

But this goes further. Despite the Skripal poisoning, the annexation of Crimea, the Kremlin’s meddling in other countries’ elections and its use of cyber warfare, this Government has turned a blind eye to the Russian dirty money sloshing around London.

The Conservatives have proved far too willing to take donations from oligarchs and other rich financiers, and far too unwilling to act on those who use Britain as some form of clearing house for their ill-gotten gains.
