FA: Selling Wembley is no betrayal
FA CHIEF executive Martin Glenn insists the sale of Wembley is an “opportunity” rather than a “betrayal”.
Fulham owner and US tycoon Shahid Khan wants to buy the stadium for £900m, but the FA face criticism for the sell-off.
However, Glenn, in a speech to FA Council members, insisted it was a chance to invest in grassroots football.
He said: “Receiving an offer to sell Wembley Stadium is not a ‘betrayal’.
“It is not selling the ‘soul of the game’. Nor is it a desperate action by a desperate organisation.
“The opportunity for the game is transformational.”
