Spandau’s 30-year-Gold
Band unveil new singer only half Hadley’s age
SPANDAU Ballet pose for their first photo with Ross William Wild who has replaced singer Tony Hadley.
Ross, 30, was recruited after 58-yearold Tony departed amid controversy.
The band played their debut gig with the new line-up last night.
Ross said: “To be at the helm with pioneers like Spandau feels just ridicu- lous.” Their guitarist Gary Kemp, 58, said: “Ross’s great talent and passion has given us the confidence to continue playing the music we love.”
Sax player Steve Norman, also 58, described Ross as “a right nice bloke – we struck lucky”.
The Mirror revealed last week Ross is the new singer in the group that formed part of the New Romantic scene in the 1980s. Two of their biggest hits were in 1983 – True, which topped the charts, and Gold, which reached number two.
When he departed last year, Tony cited “circumstances beyond my control”, which Steve called “bulls***”.
Ross played Elvis in The Million Dollar Quartet stage show alongside Spandau bass player Martin Kemp, 56.
