HIT ‘N’ MISS JORDAN GOES BACK TO BASICS

- BY EUAN McLEAN

JORDAN SPIETH reckons his game is in even better shape than when he won the Open last year.

And that has left him baffled as to why he has hardly been in contention all season.

The 2015 champion (right) goes into tomorrow’s US Open frustrated with a poor run of results and a stone-cold putting touch that does not reflect how well he feels he has been playing.

Spieth said: “My patience has been tested, just not going into Saturday or Sunday with a legitimate chance to win. Technically, in the Masters I was up there because I finished third but I didn’t really have a chance.

“Compared to previous years, the chances I’ve had on the weekends has been frustrating. But you know

it’s about recognising that it’s a long career, and results aren’t going to come by wanting them to come.

“They’re going to come by being obsessed with the process, getting back to the basics, being an athlete, figuring out within the swing. Practice is what’s going to bring it back – results aren’t everything.

“I feel like my game is in the best shape it’s been in a long time, including last year. My results don’t necessarily speak towards that, but I feel that way, and so I’ll stick with the process, and they’ll surely come.”
