WILDER TOLD: SIGN AJ DEAL OR WE’LL KNOW IT’S ALL BLUSTER

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

EDDIE HEARN has challenged Deontay Wilder to sign his fight contract and prove he genuinely wants to face Anthony Joshua.

Wilder claims he is ready to accept Hearn’s terms to face Joshua in a £60million world heavyweight title unification clash in the UK this year.

Hearn has offered the American WBC champ a flat fee in excess of the £9.3m ($12.5m) purse he proposed in April and wants him to sign.

The Matchroom MD claims the mega-fight could happen in October or November at Wembley, but only if Wilder moves quickly.

“We won’t know whether it’s for real or is bluster until we send them a contract,” said Joshua’s promoter. “If it is Wilder next, it has to probably be October or November. We’re running out of time in that respect.

“Our plan, having not heard back from them in terms of accepting the offer we made four weeks ago, was to fight the WBA mandatory against Alexander Povetkin in September. “It’s a case of how quickly we can move. Our guys will be working on the contract today and they will certainly have it by the end of the week. Then we will find out what is real.” David Haye has announced his retirement after 27 years as an amateur and professional. The 37-year-old (left) won silver at the 2001 World Amateur Championships before unifying the WBC, WBA, and WBO cruiserweight titles.

Haye then became only the second fighter in history to win world titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight.
