Pogba wonder strike helps France rule the world for second time

- FROM JOHN CROSS in Moscow

PAUL POGBA said he was living a “boyhood dream” after netting a wonder goal to help France lift a second World Cup.

The 25-year-old became the first Manchester United player to score in a World Cup Final, curling in a sublime left-foot effort that put Les Bleus 3-1 up against Croatia.

“I hope we have made the people proud,” said Pogba after leading the

squad’s wild celebrations as they showered boss Didier Deschamps with champagne and energy drinks. Pogba (below, celebrating with the trophy) added: “It’s a dream since I was a young boy. “I told everyone before the game we are 90 minutes away from realising our dream, entering the history books and making France rock – even children and their children will know about this.” A soaked Deschamps, who won the World Cup as a player with France in 1998, joked: “This is the third time I have got changed and I still smell bad.

“But these 23 players will be linked forever. Kylian Mbappe is only 19 and I hope he becomes world champion again. Twenty years ago, Thierry Henry and David Trezeguet were world champions, but not again.”

Antoine Griezmann claimed the disappointment of losing the Euro 2016 Final had inspired France.

The striker said: “We worked on that. There have been many changes and new players arrived.

“It was very positive. The subs were not in a mood, were never annoyed and that worked well.

“We come from different horizons, but have the same state of mind and played for our jersey, the cockerel, it is beautiful to see.”
