We leave Europe with no direction

-

This useless Government should scrap all its Brexit plans and negotiations and start again. Surely, anyone with an ounce of common sense would have contingency plans pertaining to various eventualities in place before triggering Article 50?

There is an old saying, “fail to prepare and you prepare to fail” and this is what has happened here.

Surely, no one in their right mind can now believe that the Tories are capable of delivering Brexit?

The way they are behaving shows they are more concerned with hanging onto power and their jobs than what is best for the country. Mary Pester, Saltash, Cornwall Two years ago we voted to leave the EU, but our Remain-supporting establishment seems to want to offer Brussels a compromise. We are either in or out. If we still have the European Court of Justice wielding some authority over our Supreme Court, then we aren’t out. If there are EU-imposed restrictions on our ability to negotiate our own trade deals worldwide, then we aren’t out. Partial withdrawal wasn’t on the ballot paper. Had the 48% who voted Remain won, there would have been no partial membership to placate the losing side, so why doesn’t that apply now? Tom Trust Redruth Cornwall Mrs May has threatened “there’ll be no Brexit at all” if the plans cobbled together at Chequers are somehow wrecked by MPs.

What an opportunity for those, like me, who believe the whole idea of Brexit is insane.

A message to all MPs, disgruntled Remainers, disaffected Brexiteers, Labour, Conservative, LibDem, SNP and all the rest – vote the White Paper down so that Parliament and the country can abandon Brexit and focus on the real issues that affect the lives of British citizens. Paul Methven, Winscombe, Somerset

Can anyone tell me why those Brits who have left the UK for a better life abroad should complain about not having a say in how those of us left behind should live our lives or vote? We live here for good or bad and we decide our own lives.

Also, where is the evidence for all the gloomy predictions about Brexit? So far nothing has happened for ill, despite claims before the vote.

Perhaps things will be tight for a while, that much we expect, but the EU countries know they need our trade too. Peter Hogg, Hornchurch, Essex

It has become clear that whatever Brexit deal Britain makes with the rest of the EU, it is going to be less favourable than it is now.

It will put thousands of jobs at risk, make Britain a less attractive place to invest in and push up the cost of living.

Yet this hopeless Tory government will no doubt try to sell that to the country as a success. T Davis, Kidderminster, Worcs Yes, it will be hard going after Britain leaves the EU, of that there can be no doubt, but Britain has stood alone before and, God willing, we can prevail again.
