Nelson Mandela, born 100 years ago today, hails the 72,000-strong crowd at the International Tribute for a Free South Africa at Wembley Stadium on April 16, 1990. Artists such as Peter Gabriel and Simple Minds played the tribute in honour of the ANC leader who had been released from prison just weeks earlier. Mandela received an eight-minute standing ovation and urged people to continue the fight against apartheid in South Africa.
