20% jump in horse testing

SCIENTIFIC testing on horses increased by 20% last year, research shows.

Animal lovers have called for an end to the “painful experiments”.

There were 10,600 experiments, mostly on almost 300 horses used for repeat blood extraction, Home Office data showed.

Dr Katy Taylor, of Cruelty Free International, said many people would be “horrified”. She added: “We call on researchers to shift their focus to developing humane alternatives.”
