Mule makes history with dressage win

- BY SARAH WARD

TOP Christie and Wallace A MULE making his species’ debut in dressage won the competition.

Wallace The Great, 11, had been turned down by official events and told he could not be a member of British Dressage.

Owner Christie Mclean decided to fight for the mule’s right to be treated equally to a horse or pony.

And British Dressage said this month mules could compete as a testament “to inclusion and diversity in dressage”.

Wallace, from Dursley, Glos, beat eight horses in the British Dressage Quest Club contest at Summerhouse Equestrian.

Christie said: “I wanted to make him happy. It is like a mule version of Babe the pig – Babe wanted to be a sheepdog and Wallace wants to be a horse.”
