No one wants to build our £250m ships

-

PLANS for new Royal Navy warships are in disarray because no one can be found to build them.

Thirteen frigates are being retired and replaced by just eight Type 26 Global Combat Ships.

Five £250million Type 31e light frigates were to make up the shortfall.

Experts warned the budget was too low – and just one firm made a bid.

The Ministry of Defence has relaunched the competition to create a ship, still with a £250million budget.

An MoD spokeswoman insisted: “We are confident that the industry will meet the challenge for the price tag we have set.”
