Many rows about it. Mum says I’m addicted

-

sorry. She says I am addicted to it and we’ve talked about what this means. I sort of agree as it is all I want to do at home.

I still swim three times a week and play cricket. It hasn’t stopped me doing that. Wednesday is an Xbox-free day which I hate. I get angry and feel like punching something. I know it’s wrong.

Mum says Fortnite has taken over our lives because the Xbox is in the lounge which is “our shared space” but she won’t let me have it in my room. I’ve spent about £200 on Fortnite since October – all my Christmas and birthday money. I bought gliders, pickaxes and emotes, which are dances. There’s new stuff all the time! Mum Rebecca Burns, 45, says: It isn’t the game that I don’t like, it’s what was happening to Ted when he played it.

He was becoming aggressive, which is out of character. I’ve banned play, threatened to bin the console and turned it off mid-game which ended in screaming and tears from us both. I took him to a coffee shop as we wouldn’t dare raise our voices and it felt a better place for us to discuss calmly what was going on.

Talking helped. The rows have subsided. They haven’t gone, but it’s not surprising. He’s 10 and can think I’m a mean mum if I don’t let him have a second biscuit.

I talk to him about the game – I’ve even played it – so I know what he is doing. BIG FAN Ted smiles as he plays Fortnite
