Six years’ jail for Tory donor who pocketed clients’ £14m
A TORY donor who stole £14.5million from clients – spending £11million of it on gambling – was jailed for six years.
Freddy David, 49, told 55 victims that his schemes were backed by High Street banks, but often transferred cash into his personal accounts.
He put his children through private school and took exotic foreign holidays with the money.
One victim considered killing himself after losing £300,000 in life savings. Another compared her ordeal to “financial and emotional rape”. David, of Borehamwood, Herts, and his firm HBFS have given £17,685 to the Tories. Judge Deborah Taylor said at Southwark crown court: “This was a fraud of the utmost gravity with a devastating effect. This was a blatant abuse of trust.” Victim Shiri Koren said of David: “This man is not just deceitful. He is evil.”
