ITV2 bosses cheer record 6m viewers

-

A PEAK audience of 4.1 million viewers made the Love Island final ITV2’s most-watched programme.

And another 1.9 million watched Dani and Jack win on ITV Hub, taking the total to six million.

This series averaged 2.7 million viewers, an increase of one million from last year. That rose to five million viewers, including the net.

ITV’S Paul Mortimer said: “We were thrilled with the level of younger viewer engagement to the extent that it broke all our previous audience records.”

Bosses are on the verge of landing a multi-million pound deal for Love Island to be remade in America. The push is being led by ITV Studios, responsible for Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot.

Fans in the US include Paris Hilton, Rebel Wilson and Hollywood actress Margot Robbie, who watch the UK show on US channel Hulu.

ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall hinted: “It’s a very strong franchise and we’re about to sign something else that would be another market and that would be a decent, a really good market.”

Versions of Love Island sold to countries including Australia and Sweden helped drive a 55% rise in world revenues for ITV Studios to £247million in the first six months of the year, with merchandising bringing in more cash.
