Kellogg’s and KFC rapped over kid ads

- BY GRAHAM HISCOTT Head of Business

ADVERTS for KFC and Kellogg’s were criticised by a watchdog for promoting junk food to children.

A poster for KFC’s Mars Krushems drink was placed on a phone box near to a primary school.

The Advertising Standards Authority said this broke rules on plugging products high in fat, salt or sugar to children.

The ASA also criticised a TV ad for Kellogg’s Coco Pops Granola, aired after a Mr Bean cartoon, saying although the product was not high in fat, sugar or salt, it was linked to the Coco Pops cereal.

KFC apologised for the poster, but Kellogg’s said it was “disappointed,” claiming: “Coco Pops Granola can be advertised in children’s airtime.”
