DRAMA
ON THE EDGE Channel 4, 10pm
Kick-starting a new three-part drama anthology aiming to serve up a slice of real life in modern Britain, this short film packs a punch. It follows the story of a young offender, with the second two films following a witness and a victim, all shining a light on the criminal justice system.
The young actress, Ria Zmitrowicz, who plays Aimee in the first episode, gives a powerful performance. We first see her getting out of prison. Within five minutes she’s back in after assaulting a police officer. And the cycle continues as she’s finally released again.
Tessa (Wunmi Mosaku) is the parole officer in charge of Aimee’s welfare, but she clashes with her boss – and lover – Mark (Line of Duty’s Craig Parkinson) over how to handle the situation. Can they all help each other find a way forward?
The second episode, about a boy who witnesses a gangland crime, is on straight afterwards.
