MEADE BACK AIMING HIGH

-

ROGER VARIAN is eyeing up a race in Germany for smart middle-distance performer Defoe before a possible crack at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The trainer said: “We are training him for the Grosser Preis von Baden at BadenBaden in September.

“We still think he’s an Arc horse as he has some of the best form around.“ MARTYN MEADE hopes his first Group One winner out of the historic Manton yard will lead to better things to come.

His star colt Advertise landed Sunday’s Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh and will now be aimed the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October.

And Meade said: “To get a Group One, so soon after moving yards, is a bit of a relief.

“We’ve won a Group Two and a Group Three as well, so it couldn’t have gone any better.”
