SINGER Petula Clark will kick off a world tour in the US this autumn at the age of 85.

Petula, whose last UK No1 was This Is My Song in 1967, is scheduled to perform in California in September and then New York in November. A spokesman at her management office near her home in Geneva, Switzerland, said: “Petula will be touring the US this fall and winter and then Australia next spring.

“There are more proposals coming through, but nothing definite yet.”

He said the singer, whose most famous hit Downtown got to No2 in the UK charts in 1964, also planned to release a “fully restored” recording of her 1974 Royal Albert Hall concert.

Petula’s career now spans seven decades. She began as an entertainer on BBC Radio during the Second World War, and had a string of hits in the 1960s. She released her last studio album From Now On in 2016, and toured the UK later that year. She and Claude Wolff wed in 1961 and have three children. In 2016, she said: “I just don’t think about my age.” Recently, her friend Charles Aznavour performed at the Royal Albert Hall at 94.
