Game’s now in grey area

-

SNOOKER’S golden oldies have taken over the game – and that’s now official.

The average age of a champion in last season’s events was 37.5 years – and in this season’s two events to date that figure is close to 40.

The resurgence in form of Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins and Mark Williams is partly responsible for the huge rise since the 2011-12 campaign.

But a clutch of other older players have lifted trophies.

Seven years ago the average age of a tournament winner stood at 31, nearly seven years younger than last term.
