YOU MUST TAME MAD DOG, STILL

- BY IAN BAKER

BARNET boss John Still is refusing to panic despite seeing his side yet to win in the National League.

The Bees have made a disastrous start following relegation from the Football League, earning just two points and two goals in five games.

They are now in the bottom four after a 3-0 home hammering by EBBSFLEET with Corey Whitely, Danny Kedwell and Sean Shields on target.

But 68-year-old Still (above) said: “I thought we were the more imposing team. Some of our movement was the best it’s been and I could not see them scoring.

“However, in both boxes we were not good. Two of their goals came from poor defensive mistakes.

“You can’t lose 3-0 at home and be happy. We cannot look back at that with any hope of achieving something we’d like to do if we’re not more clinical.

“Our goalscoring speaks for itself, we’re not scoring goals. Goodness knows how many times the ball has been cleared off the line or hit the woodwork.

“The longer the game goes on the more you give other sides an opportunity.”

Barnet next travel to fellow relegated side CHESTERFIELD on Saturday to face ex-Bees boss Martin Allen, known throughout the game by his nickname – Mad Dog.

Still said: “Martin’s got a connection here, he’s also a great friend of mine. It’s a really important game for them and us. We must get a foothold into the season.”

The Spireites dropped to eighth after going down 3-2 at SALFORD.

Allen said: “We’re going to get better. I’d be worried if we had lost and played rubbish and I’m sitting in that technical area thinking, ‘We’re rubbish, what have I done, what am I doing?’

“I don’t think like that. I think these players are a decent group of players, and we’ll be OK.”
