Oldest cricket club ‘may shut’
THE world’s oldest cricket club fears closure due to a new hotel development.
Members of Mitcham in South West London are worried a building planned near the 353-year-old site will leave them homeless.
Club secretary Julia Gault said: “We couldn’t continue playing cricket on that ground.”
But Phoenix Group Investments, which submitted plans for the hotel near the pitch, said: “There’s no intention of taking them off the site.”
