Caring club boss scores for ill fan
Who could fail to be moved by the way in which Barnsley FC reached out last week to a fan in distress?
When lifelong supporter Chris Ryder openly discussed his depression and anxiety on social media, Barnsley chief Gauthier Ganaye sat down and wrote him a humdinger of a letter, which Ryder posted online with gratitude.
“You’ve been a fan of the club for many years and always supported us,” wrote the Barnsley CEO, “so we wanted you to know that if the favour needs returning, and we need to support you, please do let us know. You’re welcome to swing by any time. My office door is always open.”
Imagine working for a boss with this much class. Imagine how much stigma and shame surrounding mental illness could be erased if more CEOs were this enlightened. Here’s hoping.
