NEWCASTLE rolled out the red carpet to make sure they snapped up striker Michael Owen from under the noses of his former club Liverpool. Boss Graeme Souness, Alan Shearer and chairman Freddy Shepherd sealed Owen’s £17million switch from Real Madrid and the forward went on to score 26 goals during four years at St James’ Park.
