RBS TO CULL MORE JOBS IN LATEST CUTS

-

The Royal Bank of Scotland was branded “disgusting” yesterday after revealing plans to close 54 branches and cut 258 jobs.

RBS, which announced the shutting of 162 branches and the loss of over 700 jobs earlier this year, said the latest cull resulted from having too many NatWest and RBS branches next to each other. Closures from January next year include Bournemouth and Darlington. A spokesman for the bank, still 62% owned by the taxpayer, said it was a “difficult decision” but that customers could use NatWest branches and local Post Offices instead.

However, trade union Unite lambasted the move. “It is disgusting RBS has the audacity to announce that yet more local branches will close their doors,” said national officer Rob MacGregor. “This heaps further misery on communities.”
