It is a big week for the St Pauls of pop with Mr Simon taking a cue from his farewell tour to cherry-pick some of the under-sung pearls of his awesome (solo) songwriting. Accompanied by his producer since the 60s, Roy Halee, Paul, and a predictably stellar cast of jazzers and session players, etch new shapes and serious levels of cool (as on the divine Rene and Georgette Magritte). Even so, three repointed tracks from 2000’s lacklustre You’re The One can’t hide the cracks. Rhymin’ Simon becomes lose a star Simon.
