GARETH SOUTHGATE admits the Russia World Cup could have been his first and last as England boss.

Southgate said he “loves” his job but cast serious doubt on whether he would still be in charge in four years’ time.

He dismissed the idea that fears of intrusion in his private life will influence any decision or that he missed the dayto-day involvement of club management.

But even though the FA publicly voiced a desire to keep him and there is a two-year extension clause in his current deal, which runs out in 2020,

and Croatia. But Southgate is determined to push through wholesale changes against Switzerland to give nearly every player a run-out.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Tarkowski are set to come in, while Kyle Walker will regain his place. John Stones and Harry Kane are likely to keep their places with Danny Welbeck set to start, and Fabian Delph, Eric Dier (left) and Ruben LoftusCheek in midfield and Jack Butland in goal.

Southgate said: “There are players with a valid case for getting into the starting team and we need to see what they can do. We’ve got tough fixtures in October, but we’ve got to find a way to win them.”
