Watson attack pair guilty

-

TWO carjackers have been convicted of trying to rob ex-boxer Michael Watson and spraying a chemical in his carer’s eyes.

The former middleweight champion was caught in the seat belt and dragged 150 yards as the men tried to steal his car near his home in Chingford, East London.

Mr Watson, 53, was with his pal Lennard Ballack, who was doused in ammonia on February 16 last year. They both spent two nights in hospital.

Simon Luck, 28, and Paul Samuels, 31, both of Manor Park, East London, have been convicted of conspiracy to rob and applying a corrosive fluid with intent. Judge Oscar Del Fabbro told Snaresbrook crown court: “There is a likelihood of a lengthy term of imprisonment, not least because of the injuries and trauma suffered by these victims.” Sentencing is on September 21. Mr Watson is disabled after suffering a near-fatal brain injury in a fight with Chris Eubank in 1991, which ended his career.
