Zlat’s on target for goal 500

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

EVERTON boss Marco Silva was fuming about his team’s performance. Even following the changes he was forced to make after more injuries to an already-depleted squad. “We didn’t deserve to win,” he said. “We didn’t perform to the level needed to win this match, and I have already told the players that as well. “At this level you can’t make the mistakes we made, and we didn’t have the quality to finish when we made chances. “After the first mistake we made, we didn’t react, and it looked like the game changed completely and we lost our confidence in that moment.” Silva made a tough call by replacing the struggling Morgan Schneiderlin just before the interval, but explained that it had nothing to do with the sad news of the midfielder’s father dying in the week before the game. He said: “Of course I spoke with Morgan during the week. I know what has happened and he was ready to play. “It is not because of what happened or because of the performance of Morgan. He told me he was ready to play and he has all my support. “It is not the first time something like that has happened, and I thought he was ready to play as well.” ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC found the net with a stunning, spinning volley for his 500th career goal, as his LA Galaxy side went down to Toronto FC 5-3.

Toronto were three up when the Swede latched on to a deep pass, flicking out his right foot and diverting the ball into the net.

After the game, the superstar marked the goal in typical Zlatan style.

“It’s not the first time I have gotten a standing ovation from the away team,” he said, after Toronto fans applauded his stunning strike.

“Obviously, it’s not good to lose... but I’m happy for Toronto because they will be remembered as my 500th victim.”

Ibrahimovic’s goals include 122 in Serie A, 113 in Ligue 1, 16 in La Liga and 17 in the Premier League.

His former Manchester United team-mate Paul Pogba sent congratulations, referencing the acrobatic finish, saying: “You watch too much Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Bruce Lee.”
