Paint attack victim became homeless after losing mum

- BY JEREMY ARMSTRONG

A HOMELESS man found dead just days after he was attacked with red spray paint ended up on the streets after his beloved mum died of cancer.

Michael Cash’s family said he had to leave his council home as it was in the name of Elaine, who died at 51.

He then “fell in with the wrong crowd” and ended up on drugs. Aunt Lorraine Darling said: “I don’t think the world was ever the same for him. Michael lost his way, there seemed nothing we could do to help him.” Footage of Michael, 32, being attacked in Middlesbrough on September 9 went viral. Lorraine, 63, of Scarborough, North Yorks, said: “I was outraged. It’s a lesson for everyone. Homeless people have a story, a family.” A crowdfunding page for funeral costs reached its target in days and the service is on September 28. Toxicology results will take three months.
