Ban it? You bet!
After we watched the World Cup together, my kids spent the summer pointing out betting shops – “Look, mum, Betfair!” “William Hill!”
So, I wasn’t surprised to learn that ITV ran almost 90 minutes of gambling ads from the start of the tournament until the Croatia v England semi-final.
It’s good to hear Labour’s plans to ban gambling advertising during live sports as part of a crackdown to tackle gambling addiction. This isn’t a ban on gambling. It’s about trying to tackle the fact kids can recognise different betting shops as easily as Pokemon cards.
