I CHEATED AND SHE’S PREGNANT

Dear Coleen

I’ve been seeing a great girl for a couple of years, but I haven’t been faithful to her. She’s always been serious about our relationship, but I feel too young to be tied down – we’re both 23.

Anyway, it’s backfired because one of the girls I slept with has told me she’s pregnant and wants to keep the baby.

I’m not a bad guy, and I’ve told her it’s her decision and I will support her in whatever way she wants me to.

I still care about my girlfriend, though, and all of this has made me realise I would like to make a proper go of things with her.

Have you any ideas?

Well, you’ve got yourself into a bit of a complicated mess, haven’t you? But it’s good you’ve been mature enough to take on responsibility for your child and be supportive to the mother.

As for your girlfriend, you must come clean. I don’t know how she’ll react – my guess is not well. But all you can do is speak from the heart and tell her what you’ve told me, which in essence is: ‘I’ve been a fool and this has made me realise that I do love you and want to commit to the relationship’.

If she tells you that’s not enough and walks away, then you can’t blame her, but you can learn from the experience so you don’t get yourself into a similar situation in the future.
