Chas to visit slave fort on Africa trip
PRINCE Charles will visit a former slave fort on a nineday visit to Africa with the Duchess of Cornwall.
It was announced yesterday that the couple will tour the Gambia, Ghana and Nigeria – countries once at the centre of the slave trade – from October 31.
In Ghana Charles will visit Christiansborg Castle, once a Danish slave fort later bought by Britain.
The couple will follow in the footsteps of Prime Minister Theresa May who visited the continent last month in a bid to boost post-Brexit trade.
Scott Furssedonn-Wood, the Prince’s deputy private secretary, said of the Christiansborg visit: “What we will almost certainly see is an acknowledgement of the darker side of the fort’s history.”
