Milk fan with 15,000-bottle collection starts own round

- BY JAMES WARD & REBECCA HUSSELBEE

A MAN obsessed with milk bottles collected 15,000 over 30 years and now does his own round in a vintage float.

Paul Luke, 40, began his collection when he was eight after helping his local milkman out for £2 a day.

He would look in lofts at old farms and swap with other collectors. Some of his bottles date back to the 1800s.

He started his own round in April and sells 1,500 pints a week in Corringham, Essex. National Association of Milk Bottle Collectors Club member Paul, who was previously in marketing, said: “Most people stopped at 100 but I just kept going. “It started with 20 bottles on mum’s sideboard. Eventually I had 15,000 in my shed, all organised by dairies.” He added of his round: “People love seeing the old float. “It brings back a lot of childhood memories.”
