Killer cladding to be banned on high-rises
FLAMMABLE cladding and insulation will be banned from use on high-rise buildings, schools and hospitals in the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
In a major victory for campaigners, Communities Secretary James Brokenshire is set to announce a total ban on combustible materials being used on new buildings taller than 18 metres.
Mr Brokenshire will say today: “I will change the building regulations to ban the use of combustible cladding for all high-rise residential buildings, hospitals, care homes and student accommodation.”
Grenfell United, representing survivors and relatives of the 72 people who died in West London last year, said: “Announcing a ban on combustible materials will ensure a fire like Grenfell can never happen again. We welcome the news.”
