Hunger shame

-

WE applaud the generosity of school teaching assistants for using their own cash to feed hungry kids and condemn the callous Government that leaves pupils dependant on underpaid staff’s charity.

They would not need to do this if the world’s sixth biggest economy was a fairer country, with a real living wage and a welfare system that ensured no one fell below the breadline.

Every teacher knows children with rumbling stomachs can struggle to concentrate.

We want a Britain where teaching assistants earn more than £12,000 and famished kids get a decent meal. Is that too much to ask?
